Because when you are dealing with digital photography, the raw file from the camera is not the final result! Except from when I’m collaborating with professional photographers, all the photos in my social media is taken with my ten years old Nikon D300. I’m doing the settings manually, and my awesome friends are taking the photos.
The shots themselves often turns out amazing – but they are not ready to be posted on the internet yet. I’m always cropping, correcting the horizon, brightness, contrast, colors and more. Why? Let me show you why …
When I’m editing my photos, my goal is to make the result look excactly like what the photographer saw. The file coming directly from my camera is certanly not what the photographer saw. A human eye is a million times better than a regular digital camera, and that’s the reason why we have software for retouching. My goal is to make my photos look attractive, natural, bright and colorful. I’m simply recreating the scene using the software.
Before the digital camera, we used analogue cameras and dark rooms for processing the photos. There is no reason to not give your photos five minutes of love in Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom! The result will simply be more attractive, more eye-catching and perfect for social media and blogs. So either you shoot in raw or .jpeg – edit your photos before posting them! It will make a huge difference.
Do you retouch you photos?
Peace, love and Friesian hugs,
